Over the past thirty to fifty years, soccer is a game that has become increasingly popular with men and women of all ages in the United States. It is predicted that around three million children now play the game that was usually only big in Europe and especially Britain, and these are usually aged between 5 and 19 in soccer leagues designed for youths.
It was during the early to mid 1800’s that soccer first came about in England but back in those days, it was very different to how it is now. Usually played by the most higher classed of people, only those that were really privileged were able to play usually those that were lucky enough to go to boarding school or to be members of private soccer clubs. These days the beloved game is now know to be more for the commoners of society and has unfortunately been classed as the game for hooliganism, especially in the UK. The main reason behind this and especially these days is the lack of cost to watch or play the game and also the ease in which it can be played both at professional and amateur level. It is not unusual to see young boys enjoying a “kick around” in the park after school!

As soon as this world class game first came about, it spread like wildfire with most of Europe taking quite a liking to the sport. It was during this time that formal competitions such as the ones that we know now, began. The world known FIFA organization started in 1904 and it was only a few short years later in 1930 that the world cup began. These days the world cup is something that brings whole communities together with even the biggest of rivals standing together hand in hand to support their countries team.

It was much later on in 1994 that the game sparked interest in the younger generations of America again after the world cup was held there. From that point onwards the sport has only grown in popularity with many fans choosing to travel thousands of miles to watch their team or country play somewhere else in the world.

These days soccer is a worldwide event and the players have lifestyles that the rest of the world can only dream about. Idols such as David Beckham, who moved to play US soccer after playing for the very well supported UK club, Manchester United, Pele and many more have sparked a craze among both men and women. Men want to play football and the women want to be a Footballers WAG, otherwise known as wife and girlfriend. Earning thousands of dollars and being the most loved people in the world, soccer has made many men what they are today and it is this that has sparked the interest of both males and females to want to play this beloved sport for their team or country.

In league play, strong soccer clubs often meet expectations when going into a match as the favored team. This is especially true when the league’s top clubs are in action. It is rare that the elite teams of leagues such as the English Premier League or the Spanish La Liga drop points to a lesser club. However, there are instances when it might be a prudent move to bet on the upset when these top teams are playing.

Top clubs hold a far more vigorous soccer betting schedule than that of the rest of the league. Because the top teams often qualify for other competitions, such as the Champions League, they play more games in a season than that of the lesser teams. Additionally, these elite teams often go deeper in league cups such as the FA Cup. Thus, there are sometimes instances where the top clubs play two or even three matches in a single week. When a team is engaged in multiple games in a week, it is often wise to bet on the upset at the back end of their week. The team is often fatigued and banged up from their busy schedule. This can give the underdog a slight edge, especially in instances where the favorite has logged significant mileage traveling to and from their matches.

In addition to competing in more matches per week on average, soccer club teams on the top tier such as Manchester United often have several international players. These players are called to duty for international matches where they represent their country. These international matches almost always call for extensive traveling and the players log more hours on the pitch in a week than they are able to handle optimally. Thus, teams returning several players from international duty are often fatigued and their form is far worse than it is in normal weeks. Thus, the normal favorites are susceptible to the upset.

In addition to the fatigue factor, sometimes soccer betting players that are central to a side’s attack or defense go down with injury. When a team loses their leading scorer to a red card or injury, a significant portion of their production goes out the window. Some teams have a more difficult time making this decrease in production up than other squads do. When a team’s superstar is out of action, they too are susceptible to the upset and bettors are often wise at booking action calling for the upset.

When scanning the preseason futures for the NFC representative for the Super Bowl, plenty of names come to mind. When betting, however, we are not necessarily best served in going with the chalk or favorite. Let us look at some of the contenders, as well as eliminate the pretenders and see if we can find some true value in our NFC Super Bowl pick before the 2009-2010 NFL season begins.

Not Even Close
Several NFC Teams can be outright eliminated from conversation, as they are nowhere near the level it takes to speak the words Conference Champion in the NFC. Scratch Detroit and St. Louis from consideration.

The Chalk
Currently, the Eagles and the Giants at nine to two odds are the odds on favorite to head to the Super Bowl. While both teams are NFC powerhouses, and certainly capable of Super Bowl contention, the nine to two odds seem a bit overstated for action on either of the two sides.

The Contenders
The Dallas Cowboys, plagued by injury and locker room drama are back a year later, and plenty wiser. After releasing TO in the off-season, as well as ditching Adam Pac Man Jones, the Cowboys are ready to make a bid for the online football betting Super Bowl in drama-free fashion. At seven to one odds, the Cowboys could offer some bang for your buck in the futures market.

While Dallas may be a value at seven to one, I find the Vikings a bit overpriced at the same odds. Quarterback issues, especially since Brett Favre is not coming back are sure to plague this talented team.
Atlanta, Carolina and the Saints each come in at ten to one odds. While each team has a shot at the Super Bowl, only a healthy New Orleans team has the firepower to make a convincing run. At ten to one odds, they are a possibility.

The Defending Champs
You did not think we forgot the Super Bowl rep from the NFC, did you? The defending NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals receive little preseason loving at twelve to one odds. While the Sports Books surely factor in that last year’s Super Bowl run was a fluke, this is a value bettor’s dream come true. The Cardinals boast the league’s most potent aerial attack led by Kurt Warner and the most talented receiving trio in the league with Fitzgerald, Bolden, and Breaston. Add into the mix the upgrade in what was a virtually non-existent running game, and you have yourself a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

At nfl odds of twelve to one, I see tremendous value in betting a return to the Super Bowl by making Arizona my NFC Champion. The other teams do not speak nearly the value the Cardinals line is presenting. My money is on the Cards.

Online casinos are, along with blogs and social networking sites, counted among the rising trends on the Internet. Online Gambling sites may not be making as big of a splash as, say, Twitter, but they are a very significant trend in the gambling world. This article examines some of the good and bad points of the rise of online casinos.

The Pros

One of the great things about online gambling is the sheer convenience. You can simply gamble from your house. There is no need to arrange a trip to the nearest casino, so therefore you do not need to block off huge amounts of time for travel, or set aside money for gas and/or accommodation. You can simply squeeze in a few sessions in the evenings. Actually, some gambling sites will even offer special promos for playing on a weekday, so being able to gamble from home can save you even more money.

Furthermore, gambling online might actually improve your game, particularly if you happen to be a shy person. At home, you will not have to contend with the presence of intimidating opponents, or be distracted by the noise and glitter of casino surroundings. Moreover, you can feel more comfortable using blackjack strategy cards and other aids that you might feel hesitant to pull out in the middle of a live casino. If you happen to be playing against a program, you can also take as long as you like to make choices. You do not need to worry about a dealer or fellow player becoming impatient with you. Some sites, particularly those devoted to poker, might even go out of their way to train you. Poker tutorials are often available on Rushmore Casino, and in exceptional cases, there may be a poker expert around to answer your questions.

For those who prefer not to risk their money, many online casinos also offer their games in a “for fun” version. You do not risk money, but of course, you cannot win money either. Still, some players would not have it any other way.

The Cons

The very fact that an online casino can be accessed by people from everywhere causes complications concerning law and jurisdiction. In a land-based casino, one simply follows the rules in the place where the casino is located. However, if you play in an online casino, you must follow the rules of the casino itself, plus the laws of whatever place you happen to live in. This can be a huge difficulty for American players in particular, as laws vary from state to state. Bingo sites have an especially ambiguous place legally, since legislators are often unsure about how to treat bingo in comparison to “normal” casino games.

In addition, there is the fact that customer service is not “instant.” You might need to wait several days for an email response, or to call only to find that the line is always busy.

Then there is the matter of wanting to gamble in several establishments. As far as land-based casinos go, you can simply hop from one to the other. Online casinos, however, often require you to set up an account.

Given these pros and cons, it is up to you to make an informed decision about what type of gambling (live or online) you prefer, or whether you want to balance out both types in your gaming.

Here’s a side bet that’s found more abroad than in the United States, but it’s just a slight variation on any “pairs” side bet you might find here. Basically you’re betting on whether you’ll get a pair on your first two cards, and the payoff depends on the type of pair you receive.

There are three online black jack possibilities here, starting with a perfect pair. The perfect pair pays 25:1, and it’s described as any pair of the same card, same suit. So, for example, in order to win this payoff, you’d have to be dealt a pair of 8’s, both hearts. The odds of getting a perfect pair in a standard, eight-deck game is somewhere around 1.6%. Not great, but certainly nowhere near the horrible odds we’ve seen for other side bet payoffs. Also worth noting, there are 1,456 combinations here.

The next payoff down the line is called a colored pair, which is the same card value but of different suits of the same color. For example, a Queen of hearts and a Queen of diamonds. The payoff on this drops more than half to 12:1, and the probability of receiving this hand jumps only marginally to 1.9 percent. There are 1,664 combinations here.

Finally, an off-suit pair, or red/black pair, pays either 6:1 or 5:1, depending on the casino, such as the Golden Nugget, with achievable odds at 3.8 percent. An example of this hand would be a three of spades and a three of diamonds.

Here’s the interesting part, the house odds are significantly (almost out of character) lower than other side bets when you get into the higher decks, giving the player the rare opportunity to actually hit a payoff without gambling on your return hinging on hitting something with a likelihood of fractions of decimal points. In an eight-deck black jack game, the house edge is just 4.1%. Six decks is just more than 6 percent. Four decks jumps to 10 percent, and a two-deck game vaults to over 22 percent. Obviously, you want to find this offered in the highest deck game possible.

This might be the first side bet that I wholeheartedly endorse. It’s simple, fun to play (who doesn’t like getting pairs in blackjack, even the bad ones, right!) and gives you a legitimate chance of winning with a nice payoff. When even the random pair nets you a 5:1 return on your side bet, I’d say it’s worth the risk if you’re intent on playing side bets to begin with.

Yankees at Blue Jays: This an interesting matchup solely for the pitchers involved – one pitcher, in particular in Roy Halladay. Due to the Jays’ ridiculously high asking price, it seems Roy won’t be moved before the official trading deadline – though that’s not to say he wouldn’t still clear waivers if another deal comes through at the last minute. But for now, he’s going up against Joba Chamberlain, who’s built a nice 7-2 record behind a good 3.6 ERA and somewhat unimpressive 1.4 WHIP. The best baseball betting wager of the year – Halladay – is still rocking an 11-4 record with 130K’s and an incredible WHIP just over 1, an impressive stat for a starter, indeed. The Yankees are firmly in first place now and more and more are looking like the best team in the AL. How will their .277 team average fare against Roy the ace? I think they’ll do just fine. The Blue Jays will be lucky to get themselves back to .500 this year. In fact, I’d pick the Yankees as a road team upset in this one. It won’t be the popular pick, but by this point either the pressure of being moved or the lack of motivation from remaining where he is will toy with Halladay just a little. And as we all know, it only takes one mistake to change a game. The Yanks have had a great July, and are on a roll in pitching and in hitting. Halladay might just be enough to push the money line to the Jays as the favorite, but it could end up being a pick ‘em at -110 each. Bet the Yankees either way.

Brewers at Dodgers: How about an NL matchup with baseball betting playoff implications? That is if the Brewers can pull themselves back into the Central race. If they can get through this tough patch, they have one of the more favorable schedules the rest of the way through the season, and can still make a run at the division crown. Little-known Yovani Gallardo (3.1 ERA) takes the mound for them, and is 3-5 with only 11 starts this season. The Dodgers offer Hiroki Kuroda, whose 3-5 record is more of a disappointment considering his team’s overall record. The Dodgers have lost a few, probably due to a severe lack of motivation or sense of urgency, and might lose their grip on the best record in the league. But where’s the fire in Milwaukee these days? This is a team that once held first place in the Central and now is looking up at three other teams, and has fallen below .500 on top of it. They seem to be in a free-fall, and are worst in the NL in team ERA, with a batting average (.259) that’s hardly enough to make up for it on the other end. This one will be a blowout, even with a shaky arm going for the home team. Dodgers -165, Brewers +150. The Dodgers are a good bet for the money line, even with the risk of how much you’d have to put up. Also, take the baseball odds over in this one if it’s at 12 or under. I have a feeling there’ll be some runs scored before the dust settles.

Hailed as the Beautiful Game, soccer is perhaps the most loved sporting event in the world. In some parts of the world, professional soccer games are an integral part of every day life. During the off-season, it is not uncommon to find friends enjoying a friendly game of soccer in parks and open areas.

But do not be fooled by its nickname! Soccer is one of the most physically demanding team sports being played today. Whether conditioning before a game or keeping in shape during the off season, soccer players undergo a series of physically demanding drills to help them improve and maintain their agility, speed, presence of mind and endurance to keep them in optimum condition when they head out to the soccer field. Because there are different requirements and responsibilities handled by soccer players depending on their position in the team, tailoring their conditioning drills and workout is essential to ensure that effective soccer training is provided to all members of the team.

Much of the conventional drills and training methods used by worldcup odds coaches are those that would benefit the defensive backs and halfbacks of the soccer team. These would often include sprint drills, weaving drills and drills which involve having to chase after the soccer ball and passing it back to their teammates. This is because of the different players in the soccer team, the defensive backs and halfbacks are those that spend the most time running back and forth through the entire field to get the ball away from the opponent and headed to their own goal. However, not all of these conditioning drills are required for all soccer players.

Take the goalies, for example. The role of the goalie is to stop the opposing team from scoring by blocking the soccer ball and prevent it from entering the goal. The goalie is assigned to guard an area that measures only 18 yards in length. That being the case, requiring you goalie to join with the rest of the players in sprint, weaving and ball chasing drills can be considered as a complete waste of time. A 10-yard sprint will be sufficient to keep your goalie remain agile enough to quickly change his direction when guarding the goal, giving him or her more energy to focus on ball catching drills, which are extremely important for this position.

Players that are assigned to play forward are another example. During a soccer betting match, forwards tend to spend more time jogging and shorter sprints but more time having to frequently change directions in order to get them to keep the ball and prevent this from being stolen by the opposing team. That being the case, conditioning drills for forwards must focus more on agility drills involving quick changes in direction with the ball and from changing pace from jogging to sprinting in a split second. This is to make sure that they are able to withstand the toll these sudden changes would have on their body during a soccer match.

Arena soccer, or indoor football as it commonly known to those in the UK, is a game that is practically the same as normal soccer but played on a much smaller pitch, usually with fewer players and has walls surrounding it rather than touch lines. Closely resembling a hockey pitch, the arena soccer pitch is usually an indoor one with astro-turf but can be covered in other things as well.

Indoor football in the UK is very much a boy’s game. There are mini leagues dedicated to it usually with teams from local public houses and is enjoyable to both watch and play. Occasionally the games take up less time than an average soccer game with many five a side or six a side games only playing on twenty minutes per half rather than 45.
Travelling across the water, arena soccer has become a firm favorite in both Canada and also the United States with many mini leagues now available for professional footballers and amateur footballers alike. Of late, the game has travelled some more, now becoming increasingly popular within Mexico and the indoor arena soccer games are usually played outside, perhaps due to the nice weather!

There are several governing bodies of arena soccer and the rules will differ slightly within each one. In the UK, the games are usually 40 minutes long but crossing the water the games can usually be played as quarters with 15 minutes in each or for the amateurs, 25 minutes and halves rather than quarters. Again, there are other differences between UK indoor football and US arena soccer – there are more players in the US. Five a side is very popular in the UK but in the US, it tends to be six per team with one of those being the all important goal keeper!

There are many benefits of arena soccer and these ensure almost constant game play with no stoppage for things such as throw ins as the ball simply hits the boundary walls and comes back into play rather than going over the line and making play restart so to speak. Of course if the ball touches the roof of the arena or goes over the walls, usual stoppage time occurs and usually, there will be no offside rule to stop play even further.
The same kind of contact rules occur in arena soccer as it does with usual soccer games. Sliding tackles are usually banned within arena soccer leagues especially on those with “fake” grass as some rather painful injuries can arise! Also, because the pitch is generally much smaller than that of outdoor soccer pitches, there is less room to maneuver in such risky tackles and are therefore best avoided.

There are many benefits to playing arena soccer as well as the ones mentioned already. It gives a chance for smaller teams to compete and generally have a good time and without the pressure of having to run around for a full ninety minutes. It also means the game play is very exciting as there is less play space and more chances for a good goal!
